George Cline

Since 1969 George Cline has safely coordinated many diverse aerial operations and events. Originally trained as a United States Air Force Air Traffic Controller, George has gone on to a distinguished career that includes:

  • Retired FAA Air Traffic Controller/Staff/Management with 38 years’ experience in 2007
  • Air Traffic Controller at the Experimental Aircraft Association's (EAA) massive show at Oshkosh, WI
  • The 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, GA.
  • The 1999/2005/2014 US Open Golf Tournament in Pinehurst, NC.
  • The 1995 National Aerobatic Championships in Sherman, TX.
  • The 2002 Air Venture Race and Time Trials in Manteo, NC.
  • 2004/2005/2006/2011/2012 Masters Golf Tournament, Augusta, GA
  • Past INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF AIRSHOWS Instructor for FAA IIC's, a required course for FAA IIC's to conduct Air Shows within the FAA.
  • Current INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF AIRSHOWS Academy Instructor for Airshows 101
  • Current INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF AIRSHOWS Academy Instructor for Air Boss 201
  • Former INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF AIRSHOWS Board Director

  • Twenty (20) years as a Controller, Procedures Coordinator, and Supervisor/Operations Manager at the Sun N' Fun Fly-In, Lakeland, FL. He was honored as their "Controller of the Year" in 1990.
  • George has also worked extensively with the North Carolina Dept. of Aviation providing his expertise and knowledge to coordinate their Wings Weekend Programs and providing Temporary ATC Tower and Advisory services
  • George was active on the FAA's Safety Council for Air Traffic Control procedures
  • George served on the FAA's National Airspace Review Team from 2000-2007
  • George served as special appointed FAA liaison to the North American Air Defense Command's (NORAD) Joint Military Command deep inside its Cheyenne Mountain Facility in Colorado Springs, CO. one month after 9/11 providing essential support to the military and  the FAA.
  • George has taught Day 1 Ground School Training to Continental Airline pilots in GSO, NC
  • George had his own featured column entitled; "A-T-C Ask the Controller" in a nationally published Safety magazine.
  • George also works the other side of the microphone; he is a Private Pilot and serves as a good will ambassador for aviation speaking to civic and community groups about his profession and avocation.
  • George has been in the AirBoss business for almost 25 years and is currently one of the Warbird Airbosses for the Oshkosh EAA and one of the AirBosses for the annual Sun n Fun annual fly-In in Lakeland FL.
  • George was invited to testify before the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in January of 2012 on behalf of the Air Show Community and the International Council of Air Shows as an expert Witness as to the duties and responsibilities of an Air Boss
  • George is regarded as the leading industry expert on FAA Air Show polices and FAA directives for airshows and Temporary Control Towers
