STEVE  CLEGG

Steve Clegg has made aviation both a profession and a hobby. He began his flying career with gliders at the age of 14. Later, he moved on to fixed wing aircraft obtaining both his Commercial Pilot certificate and Flight Instructors certificates by his 18th birthday. Since then, Steve has acquired an extensive aviation background ranging from airlines to air shows. Currently, he holds nearly every FAA category, class and instructor rating along with numerous jet type ratings and works as an FAA designated pilot examiner. Some highlights of Steve’s aviation background include:

  • FAA Instructor ratings in gliders, airplanes, helicopters, seaplanes and hot air balloons

  • Aerobatic Instructor; formation flying check pilot

  • 1979 – 1981 Corporate pilot 1981 joined Piedmont Airlines later retiring from U.S Airways as an international captain with 29 years of service

  • Type rated on Boeing 727, 737, 757, 767 aircraft

  • Flown over 100 different types of aircraft with over 27,000 hours of flying experience

  • Raced WWII aircraft in the National Championship Reno Air Races

  • World aviation speed record holder

  • Air show ferry pilot for R.A Bob Hoover (20 + years)

  • Frequent guest speaker and lecturer at FAA Safety Seminars

  • Has acted as AirBoss at various shows in the U.S. for 5+ years Superior at interfacing with the FAA regarding air show logistics and organization

  • Has managed and directed events in the south eastern U.S.

  • Has served on various air show committees and boards Currently serves as a FAA Designated Pilot Examiner for all ratings in both Airplanes and Helicopters issuing over 2,700 pilot certificates
